One upside of the decline of old media: the Dodgers invite one blogger to every home game to sit in the press box and cover the action like a journalist. Tonight, Sunday night is Dodgers Diaries turn, so I’ll be filing reports throughout the game. Please chime in with thoughts, disagreements, arguments, or just to suggest a question for Vin Scully on the sad occasion of Bob Sheppard’s death.
UPDATE: 5:23pm
There's no cheering in the press box, of course. It's the quietest place in the entire stadium during a home run.
UPDATE: 5:58pm
Carlos Silva has been the Cubs’ best pitcher this year, 9-2 with a 2.96 ERA. But he had nothing tonight. He gave up fsix runs on six hits the sixth should have been ruled an out, but the play was bang-bang because Silva failed to cover first base after Xavier Nady’s nice stop on James Loney’s hot shot to first.
Replays showed Nady beat Loney to the bag, but Silva didst protest too much and was ejected. Sorry dude, but when you don’t cover first on a routine grounder, you should keep your mouth shut. The ump may know he got it wrong, but he isn’t going to listen long to a guy who clearly didn’t do his own job.

Best games of Vicente Padilla’s career:
May 10, 2002, 4-0 shutout over Arizona. 2 hits, 3 walks, 7 strikeouts
Apr. 19, 2003, 4-0 shutout over Atlanta. 4 hits, no walks, 4 strikeouts.
Apr. 27, 2008, 10-0 shutout over Minnesota. 7 hits, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts
June 30, 2010 8-2 win over Giants. 7 innings, one run, 3 hits, one walk, 5 strikeouts.
Tonight's outing, 8 innings of two-hit shutout ball, definitely qualifies. The only thing that stood in the way of a complete game was, of course, Joe Torre's mishandling of the bullpen.
