With the Red Sox facing the Mets this weekend, here is a chance to trot out an obscure bit of trivia involving the two clubs. According to our research, which admittedly is unscientific, there are five pitchers who won a Cy Young Award and a World Series ring, and also played for the Sox and Mets.

The catch: They did not necessarily earn those distinctions with either club.

If you ever win a bar bet with this bit, remember to toast us.

Here is the Fab Five:

Tom Seaver: The final five of Seaver’s 311 wins came with the Sox in 1986. A knee injury prevented him from facing the Mets in the World Series that year.

Bret Saberhagen: He got his ring and two Cy Youngs with the Royals before being dealt with the Mets. He ended his career with four seasons in Boston.

David Cone: The interesting twist with Cone is that he and Saberhagen were teammates on the Royals, Mets and Red Sox. Like Saberhagen, he won his Cy Young in K.C.

Frank Viola: The only lefty in this group, Viola got his hardware in Minnesota. He never made the playoffs with either the Sox or Mets.

Pedro Martinez: He is the only one of the five to win the Cy Young and the World Series with the Sox. He also picked up a Cy Young with the Expos.
