Another Plea For College Football Playoff

My sincere apologies for not blogging recently. I know that you were all sitting near your computers awaiting my blog post about the Sugar Bowl. Couple of reasons why that blog wasn't written: 1.) I'm in college and was drinking during that game (you had to as bad as UC played) and 2.) I was too mad about what was going on. I'll explain.
College football is terribly flawed. It's no secret but the sport has major problems. I'm not making any excuses for my Cats. They were completely mismatched with the Gators. Florida wins that game 10 times out of 10 ... no doubt in my mind.
Unfortunately there isn't much of a realistic way to make teams more competitive with each other. It would take a long time for UC to compare to a team like Florida as far as talent of players goes. UC, being a stepping-stone school for coaches, doesn't speed that process up either.
I don't know the numbers but I would venture to guess that Florida's roster is stacked with four- and five-star recruits. UC may have two four-stars. Now I know that a lot of those recruiting rankings don't end up mattering but we all know the Gators get the better players. It's pretty amazing too considering the schools they have to compete with too (Miami, Florida State, South Florida).
So to the real problem. A playoff system. I know it's not a new concept but if money is the main reason that you keep a bowl system, then your sport sucks. Think of how many different national champions there would have been over the years with a playoff system. It's the only way to crown a legit national champion. Or when bowl season is over everyone is constantly talking about how the third team (in this case, Florida) would beat the so-called "national champion."
It's the reason college football is less popular than the NFL. I personally hate college football. Sure I still watch the games but I can't help thinking that our season will come down to one game and we may not even get a shot at the title.
So yes, I do think UC should have had that shot at a title. Would they have gotten beat? Absolutely. Would they have been beaten badly? More than likely. But when a BCS school runs the table and does everything asked of them during the season and then is told to go play for third place, it's ridiculous.
I realize that UC wouldn't have won a game in the post-season this year playoffs or not. But to tell them, Florida, TCU or Boise to go play for runner-up is pitiful.
It happens year after year though and it won't stop. Until it does, I don't care to watch.
